TEMPORARY WORKER’S VISA

 
The first temporary worker’s visa must always be processed at Colombian consulates abroad. In all other cases it may be granted in Bogota, providing the applicant has a valid visa.
 
This visa may be granted to a foreigner contracted by a public or private company, entity or institution or a natural person wishing to enter or remain in this country for the purposes of engaging in work in his/her specialty, to personnel transferred from abroad to occupy a specific position in a Colombian company; volunteers and missionaries who do not form part of the hierarchy of the religious entity, to a foreigner who is a member of an artistic, sports or cultural group contracted by reason of his/her activity, when it is remunerated.
 
Requirements
 
• Present Form DP-FO-67 “Application for a visa” completely filled out and signed by the foreign applicant and not by an intermediary.


• Present a valid passport or travel document, in good condition and with a minimum of two (2) blank pages.

• Two (2) recent 3X3 cm photographs, full face front view, against a white background or, in the case of applications at a Colombian Consulate, three (3) such 3X3 photographs.

• Copy of the main page of the valid passport containing the personal details of the holder, of the page with the last Colombian visa, if any, and that of the latest entry or departure from Colombia stamp, as the case may be.

• Contract or administrative document, as the case may be, or Form DP-FO-67 “Summary of contract” established in article 29 of this Resolution, filled out, signed and authenticated by the parties, stating the purpose of the contract, its term of duration, the relationship agreement, transfer, as applicable, salary, position and duties and specify that the contracting party or employer undertakes before the national Government, on termination of the contract, relationship or transfer period, or in situations which prevent him/her from carrying out the duties or activities under the contract, or death, or when cancellation of the visa deportation or expulsion are applicable, according to the provisions of Decree 4000 of 2004, to pay all the expenses of the return to his/her country of origin or to the last place in which the residence of the contracted foreigner is shown, as well as his/her family, if appropriate.

• Certificate of existence and legal representation or valid document accrediting legal corporate existence, as the case may be, when the contracting party or the employer is a legal person, issued within the three (3) months preceding the application for a visa. When it is considered necessary, the company’s balance sheets showing its financial solvency or a photocopy of its income tax return will be requested. When the contracting party is a natural person, he/she must provide proof of his/her financial solvency with income in excess of ten (10) minimum legal monthly wages in force and, if necessary, a photocopy of his/her income tax return for the previous taxable year. Compliance with the provisions of this numeral will not be required of Colombian State bodies, entities or institutions, international governmental entities, diplomatic missions or consulates accredited in Colombia.

• Proof of qualifications in the case of the practice of a regulated profession with the corresponding permit, license or provisional permit to practice the respective profession in Colombia granted by the competent authority, as appropriate. In the case of a non-regulated profession or activity, presentation of the respective professional certificate, authenticated before a Colombian Consulate, legalized or with an apostille and/or certificate of equivalency of the professional qualification before the Ministry of Education, as the case may be. For other positions, a letter from the contracting entity or employer responsible, certifying the qualification based on experience in the occupation or activity to be performed in Colombia.

Note:  A beneficiary’s visa may be granted to the spouse, permanent partner, parents and children who are economically dependent on the foreign holder of a temporary worker’s visa, following prior proof of the relationship or kinship. In these cases, the occupation of the beneficiary must be that of looking after the home or a student. No other occupation may be authorized.
 
Requirements:
 
Payment for visa study: USD 50
 
Valid passport or travel document, in good condition and with a minimum of two blank pages.
 
Two (2) recent 3x3 photographs, facing the camera, in color and against a white background.
 
Civil registration or equivalent document certifying relationship or kinship, legalized or with an apostille, as the case may be.
 
Documents evidencing the beneficiary’s economic dependence upon the visa holder.
 
Letter in which the visa holder assumes responsibility for the beneficiary’s stay in and departure from Colombia. In the case of minors, the request, proxy or authorization must be signed by their parents and authenticated before a Colombian notary or consul.
 
Photocopy of the holder’s valid visa.
 
When the request for a visa as a beneficiary is presented to the Visas office in Bogota, the foreign permanent partner of the visa holder must present the respective judicial decision, minute of conciliation or public deed declaring the existence of the de facto marital union in accordance with Colombian regulations, with date of issue no more than three (3) months prior to the day on which the request for a visa is presented.
 

Costs:

STUDY:  Fifty dollars (US$50) in Colombian pesos at the average exchange rate fixed every four (4) months by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: NON-REIMBURSABLE.

VISA: Two hundred and five dollars (US$205) in Colombian pesos at the average exchange rate fixed every four (4) months by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This includes US$45 stamp tax.

TERM: Up to two (2) years. The visa will be forfeited following an absence from Colombian territory of more than one hundred eighty days

Opening hours: MONDAY TO FRIDAY 7:30 am to 12:00 noon (last day of the month 7:30 am to 10:30 am).

Copy of the biographical data page of the passport and the latest visa and/or entry stamp.
