• Personal application to be completed at the issuing office or by electronic means. 

• Personally submit the application at the offices indicated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

• For persons of legal age, submit a valid original format of the Colombian I.D. Card. 

• For under age applicants, an authentic copy of the Registered Birth Certificate issued by the same registration office and/or the I.D. Card. (This last document is for minors between 7 and 17 years of age)

Minors must always be accompanied by one of their parents or their legal representative. If the latter are absent from the place of the procedure, an authorization for the passport to be issued, duly authenticated (before a notary public if in Colombian territory or with an apostille or legalized before a Consul if abroad) must be presented.

• Previous passport, should it exist. 

• Payment at the bank situated at the same office where the procedure is being carried out or through the electronic means established to that effect. 

• In case of loss or theft of the document, the holder must show the report presented before the relevant authorities.

• If any amendment was made to the applicant’s I.D. Card and the card has not yet been issued, a voucher for it and a copy of the registered birth certificate must be presented with the relevant amendment.

• Should the applicant not present his/her original I.D. Card in its valid format, a voucher for the issuance of the card must be presented, the date of which should not exceed one (1) year
