International Police Organization (INTERPOL)

INTERPOL is a global organization that brings together 188 countries worldwide to reduce transnational crime, providing a strategic advantage to the different law enforcement agencies and the administration of Justice in a multilateral action against crime, the prosecution of offenders and criminal organizations worldwide.

For this purpose, each Member State has an INTERPOL National Central Bureau, in charge of interfacing with justice agencies and police forces of the other 187 countries, as well as the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France, through the global network of protected communication.

Colombia joined the INTERPOL through the National Intelligence Service (CIS), an institution that took the name of the Administrative Department of Security (DAS) in 1960, and was in charge of INTERPOL until January 2010, when the national government reassigned its functions to the National Police.
