The diplomatic relations between India and Colombia were established in January 1959 and their Embassies opened in February 1973 and March 1972, respectively.
Recent Meetings
- October 2010. INDEE – Indian Engineering Exhibitions – Colombia 2010 was held as cooperation between the Engineering Export Promotion Council – EEPC – and the International Fair of Bogotá, having received the largest delegation of Indian engineering companies in Latin America. India was the guest of honor country to the event with 151 participating companies of the engineering, chemical and plastic sectors.
- September and October 2010. Professor Saugata Roy, Minister of State for Urban Development, was the leader of a delegation of 28 officers of its Ministry, as well as from the transportation departments of the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh. The visit to Bogotá was held from September 28 to October 3, 2010, and focused on the knowledge of the planning, financing and operation of the Transmilenio system in Bogotá and of other mass rapid transportation systems in Colombian cities, showing interest in its implementation in India.
- February 2011. The Vice-Minister of Business Development, Carlos Andrés de Hart Pinto, participated in the 19th Leadership Forum of NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies), which enhanced the policy of production transformation and tax incentives that Colombia offers to attract global companies competitive within the sector of information technology to operate in the country. The president of the consulting firm Tholons, Avinash Vashista, will also participate in the Colombian meeting, which recently presented a study called “Colombia, the hidden jewel of Latin America in outsourcing of IT services”.
- May 2011. The Minister of Mines of India, Dinsha J. Patel, visited Colombia from May 1-4, 2011, accompanied by a delegation of 7 members, including representatives of National Mineral Development Cooperation, Hindustan Copper Limited, Geological Survey of India and MECL – Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited. During this visit he met with his Colombian counterpart entering into a Memorandum of Understanding in Geology and Mineral Resources. He also met with the Vice-minister of Infrastructure, the Director of Ingeominas, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and the Vice-president of Colombia.
