Colombia has had a progressive commercial approach with Southeast Asia: exports to the region moved from US$3,46 millions in 2008 to US$9,09 millions in 2010 (showing an increase of 163%); and imports moved from US$685,67 millions in 2008 to US$780,40 millions in 2010 (showing an increase of 14%).
Development of the agricultural industry also represents an important objective of Colombia in the Southeast. With Malaysia, one of the main world producers of palm oil, entering into a Memorandum of Understanding has been proposed to include matters such as the purchase of seeds, training programs and transfer of new technologies. With Indonesia, projects will be promoted for research, innovation and development of business opportunities in palm plantations, rubber, cocoa and rice. With Vietnam, which for a long time was among the first world exporters of coffee, there are cooperation opportunities for the mechanization and development of the coffee sector. And with Singapore, the participation in infrastructure projects is expected in view of its port and air development, and in general for transportation infrastructure.
Environmental matters and the attention and prevention of disasters are also important issues for our country. Besides having three countries that as Colombia are mega-diverse (Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia), the South East is a global leader in environmental matters, as well as risk management in the case of natural disasters such as typhoons, tsunamis and earthquakes.
Our country offers its successful experience and best practices in matters of security, defense, electrical sustainability, public-private schemes, and further having the possibility of becoming a preferred destination for the teaching of Spanish and opportunities in tourism and investment.
