The UNESCO Culture for Development Indicator Suite: Colombia was chosen as one of the five study countries for the first phase of the “Culture for Development Indicator Suite” launched by UNESCO for 2011. The first test phase of the UNESCO Culture for Development Indicator Suite is being carried out at Bosnia-Herzegovina, Costa Rica, Ghana, Uruguay, Vietnam and Colombia. The initial process of the program in Colombia is sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the National Administrative Department of Statistics, by the Regional Centre for Book Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, and by other government entities.

Meeting of the International Scientific Committee of the UNESCO Slave Route: it was held between 28 February and 3 March 2011 in Bogotá and in Cartagena de Indias, as part of the commemoration of 2011 as the International Year of the Afrodescendants. The meeting is aimed at increasing the knowledge on slave trade as a human tragedy, and at fostering solidarity attitudes, the fight against all types of modern slavery, as well as knowing and preserving historic sites related to slavery, including the sites inscribed on the World Heritage List.

The second World Conference on Arts Education: it was held between 25 and 28 May 2010 in Seoul, Korea.

The Latin Union: as a result of the 24th Congress of the Latin Union, held in Paris on 8 June 2009, the closing of eight representative offices of the Organization abroad was decided, among them the office in Colombia with the intention of turning it into an ad honorem office.

UNESCOS’s Memory of the World Programme: the National Library nominated the the José Celestino Mutis Collection (Memory of the scientific work of José Celestino Mutis and the Botanic Expedition of the New Kingdom of Granada) to the Memory of the World Register – Latin America and the Caribbean. It was inscribed during the Tenth Meeting of MOWLAC Regional Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Mexico from 26 to 28 October 2010.

Bogotá as “Creative City of Music:” the District Secretariat for Recreation and Sport and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogotá have been working, since June 2010, for the nomination of the city, under the category of music, to be included in the Creative Cities Network of UNESCO.
